Drummer Boy Charles E. Moore of the 108th New York Infantry

Just a quick update on the status of Charles E. Moore’s fallen headstone.  The Town of Perinton forwarded my email regarding the possible headstone vandalism to the Village of Fairport.  As of this morning, I had not heard anything from them.  A drive by Greenvale Cemetery today showed that Charles’ headstone is still down.

At the end of October, I took another trip to Greenvale Cemetery to see if Charles E. Moore’s stone had been righted. It had not.

My trusty sidekick, Laurie T. Hall, and I raised the headstone. However, although the stone was able to be put back on the base, we were concerned it would easily topple over in the wind without the proper epoxy to secure it to the base. We made the decision to place the headstone upright on the ground against the base.

I will once again contact Fairport to remind them that there is a young drummer boy’s headstone in need of repair at Greenvale Cemetery.
